the fashion feed - episode 4 with amy fuchsia
My fourth guest on The Fashion Feed podcast is Amy Fuchsia of Fuchsia Shaw
Amy Fuchsia is the ultimate definition of a ‘multi - hyphenate’ - she’s a fashion influencer, stylist, content creator and designer for her own brand Fuchsia Shaw. Her career started in costume design and on- set styling but it didn’t fulfil her creative drive so she slowly transitioned into creating her own designs on swimwear.
After having one of her swimsuits accidentally go viral on Pinterest, she noticed the power of social media and started to grow her own Instagram account sharing outfit posts that her mum had taken of her
At a first glance on Amy’s Instagram feed you may not realise she’s quite shy so I was extra grateful when she agreed to come on the podcast & tell her story! I admire her because she pushes through her insecurities, works hard & puts herself out there to create her own opportunities which have really paid off!
I first came across Amy as she’d done some influencer work for a brand I was working with at the time. I’m now a fashion brand consultant & work with brands on their design, sourcing, manufacturing & marketing. After noticing she had her own brand, I reached out to Amy in September 2018 to see if she wanted to have a chat about Fuchsia Shaw & how I might be able to help.
I remember being SO excited when she replied & since then, we’ve worked together on trend forecasting, inspiration shopping & a launch plan for her AW 18 collection. We visited a knitwear factory in Leicester & also did a fabric sourcing trip in Paris (not quite as glam as it sounds… we met at St Pancras station at 5 am and got home at 10 pm the same day!)
Amy came over to my house to record the podcast and my cat Vinnie was sat in the corner listening to the whole interview. She was wearing dad jeans, a grey sweatshirt an oversized black denim jacket, white sports socks and chunky trainers (I looked a mess as usual!)
In this episode we cover :
How to grow your account by creating content & telling stories that resonate with your audience
An honest account of her struggles with manufacturing & how she overcame them
How she sold out her first bag collection in 15 minutes
Her insecurities about the brand & how it’s perceived
How to create a manageable collection within your capabilities
Trends we’re excited to see launch in 2019
